HEALTH, EYE, & EAR SCREENINGS

Jointly organized with Kebun Baru CC SCEC, Villas & Vista NCs, and Sembawang Baptist Church, and supported by Active Ageing Committee, the 'HEALTH', 'EYE' & 'EAR' Screenings were held yesterday morning at Sembawang Baptist Church (140 Casuarina Road, off Upper Thomson Road).
This is our first attempt to bring the 'Health Screening' nearer to the homes of residents in the private estate instead of the normal venues at either Kebun Baru Community Club or RC Centres. The objective is to cater for senior citizens, in particular living in Sembawang Hills Estate which is under the purview of Villas and Vista NCs. We have received feedbacks in the past that the CC or RC Centres are too far for these residents. Hence, we have been able to seek the assistance from the Sembawang Baptist Church who has kindly consented for us to utilise their premises for this event. At the same time church members could also participate in this exercise.

However, we are quite disappointed that yesterday's turnout has been rather lukewarm. There were 45 persons for 'Health Screen'; 50 for 'Ear Screen'; 55 for 'Eye Screen' which fell below our anticipated figure of minimum 100. Number of participants from the church yesterday was 30. Hence, we managed only about 15 from the NCs (in fact that include a last minute attempt to rope in Thomson Hill NC with 5 residents participated). We have therefore, to work very hard to reach out to senior citizens (age 50 and above) in the private estate in order to achieve our 'Active Ageing' goal.

Yesterday we were indeed honoured to have with us Dr. Lim Wee Kiat, MP for Sembawang GRC to attend to those signed up for the Eye Screening.

As mentioned earlier, the service providers for the corresponding screening are Mt. Alvernia Hospital for Health; Eagles Eye Centre for Eye ; and Alexandra Hospital for Ear.

The organising committee would like to thank residents who have participated in these exercises, the volunteers from Active Ageing Committee, SCEC, and Villas NC for their assistance, and the service providers for their services rendered.
