Completed Events









TCM HEALTH TALK -

The monthly TCM Health Talk organized by Kebun Baru CC SCEC and supported by Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee was held on Sunday, 19th June 2011 at Kebun Baru CC Room 104. The Topic being "TCM Physiques and TCM Lifestyle" attracted more than 50 people, the best turnout since the first Talk being organized in March 2011. Participants paid $1.00 each for the 2 hour talk starting at 3.00p.m. with Q & A after each talk. Based on the interests shown on Sunday we expect a good turnout for the next talk which we would be announcing soon. We do look forward to your participation!

Social Dance Nite 2011 - A Father's Day Celebration











































Kebun Baru CC SCEC held its Social Dance Nite 2011 - A Father's Day Celebration on Saturday, 18th June 2011 at Broadway @ AMK, Ang Mo Kio CC (Aircon.). Guest of Honour, Mr. Von Lee, Kebun Baru CCC Vice-Chairman. Event commenced at 6.00p.m. with a 1 1/2 hours of non-stop Line Dancing. From 7.30p.m. - social and ballroom dancing with Raymond Lee at the keyboard till 8.30p.m. when the Latin segment started with dances such as Pacada Tango, Pase Doble, Samba, Salsa, and Cha Cha, for a good half hour. Ballroom and social dancing then continued. A Chinese 9-course dinner was served from 8.00p.m. The programme ended at 10.15p.m. preceded by a LUCKY DRAW. Some 250 people attended the event.

Community Functional Screening Programme




Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee in conjunction with Health Promotion Board is organizing a Community Functional Screening Programme on Sunday, 26th June 2011 at Kebun Baru CC. Time; 8.00a.m. to 12 noon. Price at $5.00 per person the screening programme is a series of simple tests and questionaires administered by healthcare professionals in the following six areas, namely,

PHYSICAL FITNESS - Good physical fitness is important in performing daily activities. The tests used helps detect the risk of functional decline such as disability as well as the risks for falls. Seniors with low physical function will be referred to the family doctor for medical follow up.

CONTINENCE STATUS - Urinary incontinence is associated with a low quality of life in seniors. Screening can help detect the risk of urinary incontinence. Seniors with urinary incontinence will be referred to the family doctors for medical follow up.

MOOD STATUS - Certain changes in life such as retirement, loss of a loved one and health conditions that affect one's independence and mobility, can cause some people to feel 'blue' or 'sad'. Depresssion could become an illness if it stays for too long and could obstruct the daily functioning, including work and interest in activities of seniors. Screening provides early detection of depressive symptons.

VISION - Good vision is an integral part of everyday life. Regular monitoring of eyesight for changes can help seniors increase their level of independence.

HEARING - Good hearing is important to keep seniors connected to the world. Difficulties with communication may result in decreased social activity. Screening can help detect hearing problems.

ORAL HEALTH - Oral health is important for overall health because it helps senior enjoy their food and maintain good nutrition. Seniors will be screened for oral cleanliness, number and condition of teeth, condition of dentures, as well as signs and symptons of dental pain.

After the screening, participants will receive their results on the same day on-site. A nurse counsellor will interpret the results and advise each participant on the appropriate medical follow-up and healthy lifestyle practices.

Community Sports Festival 2011



















Community Sports Club celebrated its 30th Anniversary on Sunday, 24th April 2011 at the Yio Chu Kang Stadium. The Guest of Honour was the Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong. The Community Sports Club of Ang Mo Kio GRC, Tanjong Pagar GRC, Jalan Besar GRC, Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, and Yio Chu Kang SMC jointly organized this event which was attended by 8,000 people. It started with the Prime Minister and MPs of all the GRCs and SMC went on stage to launch the Community Sports Festival 2011, followed by the flagging off of the Bisk Wall. There were perfomances on stage, games stalls, and exercises for all to participate. Goodies bags were given out to those present.

TCM Health Talk by Public Free Clinic Society



Kebun Baru CC SCEC, jointly with Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee and Yio Chu Kang Active Ageing Committee would be organizing another TCM HEATLH TALK on Sunday, 15th May 2011 between 3.00p.m. and 6.00p.m. at Kebun Baru CC Room 205. The Topic this time is - 'Prevention and Treatment of Rheumatism in Chines Medicine'. The talk would be conducted in Mandarin. Participants of previous two talks i.e. 'Prevention and Treatment of Hypertension in Chinese Medicine' and 'Regulating emotions for clearing heat - to creat a comfortable and flexible life' found the talks rather interesting. There were also hands on demonstration on the acupoints of our body. Therefore, please don't delay. Gather your friends and neighbours for the coming talk.

TCM Health Talk by Public Free Clinic Society




Kebun Baru CC SCEC held its second in a series of TCM Health Talks on Sunday, 17th April 2011 at Kebun Baru CC. The topic was "Regulating emotions for clearing heat - to create a comfortable and flexible life". There was a reasonable turnout for the talk by Medical Practioner Loh from Public Free Clinic. He started by presenting the daily life of our modern society, full of stress from work, family, etc. These stress effectively affect our emotions. He then elobrated on the seven emotions in Chinese medical terminology and how they would affect one's health i.e. through internal damage to human organs such as heart, liver, kidney, colon, and bladder. He further dealt with preventive measures in various TCM ways which include massage of the acupoints of our body, simple exercises, hot bath, listening to soothing music, more communication with friends, change of diets, etc. He also gave a few tips on the type of diets which could help to deal with emotions. The event was supported by Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee. In our subsequent talks, once a month till August 2011 - topics include "Prevention and treatment of Rheumatism in Chinese Medicine", "Distinction between Physiques and TCM Lifestyle", "Prevention and treatment of skin itching and ageing in Chinese Medicine", and "Sleeping disorders in Chinese Medicine - sleep well, look younger". Official Opening of AMK 3G Centre


We are pleased to announce the official opening of AMK 3G Centre which is located next to Cheng San Community Club and adjacent to Ang Mo Kio MRT Station, on Sunday, 20th February 2011. Guest of Honour is the Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong. MPs for Ang Mo Kio GRC and Yio Chu Kang SMC shall be in attendance. There shall be a range of activities including stage performances, singing competition, demonstration of IT for Seniors, karate competition, side shows put up by government agencies, and exhibits by Ang Mo Kio Town Council, etc. Programme for the morning is attached for your reference. Kebun Baru CC SCEC shall put up a performance of Taijiquan and three members shall be participating in the singing competition. All are welcome!!!

Kebun Baru Villas Estate Upgrading Programme cum Residents' Dialogue















KEBUN BARU VILLAS ESTATE UPGRADING PROGRAMME RESIDENTS' DIALOGUE was held on Sunday, 30th January 2011 at Shangri-la Playground ( located at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 2/Jalan Lanjut/Jalan Mengkudu). Guest of Honour, Mr. Inderjit Singh, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC who also chairs the Estate Upgrading Programme Working Committee arrived at 5.30p.m. as scheduled. The turnout of residents has been very encouraging despite the bad weather. It has been raining the whole day since the day before.
The programme started with an address by Mr. Inderjit Singh. Architect for the project, Mr. Eric Tay from Design Metabolists then conducted a presentation of the project highlighting some of the features such as estate markers, rain shelters, footpath, lamposts, road signs, upgrading of Shangri-la Playground (connecting St. Nicholas View playground), upgrading of Ellington Square Playground, removing unhealthy trees and palm trees replacing them with trees recommended by the Architect. Exhibits of the project were put up for residents to view in order to have a better understanding.
A Question & Answer session with the panelist comprising key members of the EUPC chaired by Mr. Inderjit Singh fielded questions from the residents. A wide range of interesting questions and inputs were put forward by the residents. The panel responded positively and would address residents' concern.
The session ended at about 6.45p.m. followed by refreshments for all participants.
On behalf of EUPC, we would like to express our deep appreciation to the organizers of the forum for the set-up of the tentage, exhibits, etc. and most importantly the residents who had despite of the wet weather, turned out for the event

Residents' Forum - Kebun Baru Villas Estate Upgrading Programme


Kebun Baru Villas Estate Upgrading Programme Residents' Forum shall be held on Sunday, 30th January 2011. Time: 5.00p.m. to 7.00p.m. Venue: Shangri-la Playground (located at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 2 / Jalan Lanjut).
Guest of Honour, Mr. Inderjit Singh, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC, Adviser of Ang Mo Kio GRC GROs, Chairman of Kebun Baru Villas EUP Working Committee.
Programme would include exhibits of the EUP of the estate (area under the purview of Villas NC i.e. part of Sembawang Hills Estate bounded by even numbers of Jalan Leban, Jalan Batai, Jalan Chempedak, Jalan Lanjut, Jalan Mengkudu, Jalan Chengam, Jalan Rukam, Jalan Menarong, Jalan Sappan, and Jalan Tarum; St. Nicholas View, Ellington Square, and Shangri-la Park (Shangri-la Close and Shangri-la Walk). Address by the Guest of Honour. Presentation by the Architect of the project. Q & A by residents. Programme would conclude with refreshments for all.
Invitation cards have already been sent out to all relevant residents. The EUPWC would encourage residents in the estate to be present to gather for themselves updates of the EUP.

River Hongbao Tour

Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee is organizing a 'River Hongbao Tour' on 9th February 2011. Time: 7.30p.m. to 9.30p.m. Bus shall depart from CC at 7.00p.m.
Fees: $2.00 for member, $3.00 for non-member (open to Kebun Baru residents aged 50 years and above).
Registration at the CC office.
As tickets are limited to 40 pax. please hurry.
Closing date: 30th January 2011, on first come first served basis.

On 9th February 2011 the theme is 'Active Ageing Night' and the Guest of Honour is Minister in Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Lim Boon Heng. The programme for the evening would include performances by Senior Citizens Groups, songs & dance by dance troupe from Nanjing City, Guangdong Art Troupe and Short Films.
Kebun Baru CC SCEC Adult Ballet Dance Group and Chinese Dance Group have been invited to perform on that evening.
